Turkish On-road Championship Round 3 was held in Bumod track located in Bursa on 8-9th of August. Weather was perfect and drivers enjoyed the great atmosphere of the track with fresh air between the mountains. On Saturday, race started with practise rounds where I broke in a new engine. Car setup was good right from the start, I just played with rear toe in, rr camberlink, weight balance, and caster for the weekend. Carbon aero disks also proved to work very well on this high speed track. Only problem was mileage with the new engine, being still too rich, it could not make 5 minutes. Despite of that, I managed to TQ first 2 rounds that put me in pole for the final.
Final started pretty clean and I managed do lap the entire field before first pitstops.
On third stop, I had my rear left tire changed as scheduled, and left the pits still leading. Unfortunately, some minutes later, I touched a curb and flipped the car which damaged my rear left tire. I was still able to drive the car without loosing too much pace, but 2 laps later I stripped 2nd gear, because of loose engine screws. We changed the gear and broken tire and I was back on the track 6 laps down, 17 minutes to go. I pushed very hard but mathematically it was nearly impossible to catch the new leader Halit Korpe (XRAY). 3 minutes to go, gap was about 1.5 laps but Halit was fastly loosing his pace as he was out of tires. Eventually he had a mistake which put him on the grass, and his engine stalled 3 laps to go. At that lap I regained my lead and finished in a relief. Race was very thrilling and it was a great confidence boost before the euros in Efmod.
